Highlights from 2nd Annual Bell Drone Competition

Committed to furthering STEM education in schools, Bell launched its second annual Bell Drone Competition in late April. Six local high school teams were provided a drone kit to assemble and modify to accomplish several unique missions for the competition. The teams were given six weeks to design, fabricate and test their concepts using the school maker space facilities and guidance from Bell Engineering mentors.

Schools involved included: L. D. Bell High School, Euless Trinity High School, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School (Fort Worth, Texas), Polytechnic High School, Dallas ISD, Richland High School (Texas).

On competition day, the teams competed head-to-head to put their design solutions to the test. In addition, teams were required to use their critical thinking skills as they executed a Search & Rescue mission and take on other problem-solving challenges during the competition.

Bell and its education committee started this competition to challenge and ignite a passion for STEM with today’s youth.

In the end, 1st Place went to Trinity High School.
